The European project Recyship, led by the Spanish company Reciclauto Navarra S.L., will take charge of the dismantling and decontamination of the Spanish Navy’s Marsopa submarine. This project, funded by the European LIFE+ program, aims to develop an innovative model for the recycling and scrapping of end-of-life vessels in Europe, ensuring compliance with the strictest environmental regulations.

The Marsopa, a Daphné-class submarine that served the Spanish Navy for over 30 years, is now ready to be dismantled in an environmentally responsible manner. Recyship will apply advanced techniques to decontaminate the vessel, removing hazardous materials such as asbestos, oils, and heavy metals, which are common in military ships of this era.

This initiative not only contributes to environmental protection but also establishes a benchmark for the sustainable management of naval assets at the end of their operational life. The project is expected to generate valuable knowledge for the maritime industry and promote the adoption of green practices in ship recycling across Europe.
